A Strategic Update & Roadmap to 2036
Scotland’s mountain biking and off-road leisure cycling landscape is evolving faster than ever.
With new facilities across the country funded by the Scottish Cycling Facilities Fund, an £8m investment program by Scottish Government and sportscotland, which has delivered 14 new MTB trail centres, 18 pump tracks, and 2 skills trails areas since 2020. It is anticipated that the fund will unlock over £18m+ of investment, including match funding, when completed in the next couple of years.
And the associated growth in cycling is having an impact on related product sales through bike retailers in Scotland. MTB overall grew 12% in 2025 in the UK but was outperformed by Scotland showing +17% value growth.
Another huge investment is £15.5m secured from UK Government for delivery of a new Mountain Bike Innovation Centre with construction work on the main building well-underway including the world's first trail lab.
Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (DMBinS) are keen to build on this success and are leading the process of creating a new compelling 10-year strategy to unlock the sector's full potential.
From new trails, events, cutting edge innovation, to the arrival of the world’s biggest cycling race, there is a lot going on – and the lessons for success are being developed together across the UK with the industry funded, UK Trails Project.
