Press Release

The Bicycle Association’s (BA) 2025 comprehensive annual market report will be published on Thursday 13th of March, with members of the BA getting an exclusive first look at the latest UK cycling market data at the Association’s annual conference on Wednesday 12th March.

The report provides an in-depth analysis of the UK cycling market, drawing on a wide range of industry data sources, including the BA’s Market Data Service, which collects retail sales data covering approximately 70% of the UK cycling market by volume.

Following several challenging years for the sector after the pandemic-driven boom in cycling demand, the latest analysis shows a return to growth. While overall sales remain below peak levels, areas of the market are showing signs of resilience and green shoots are emerging.

The report explores performance across key product categories, including mechanical bikes, e-bikes, parts and accessories, and services, as well as wider participation trends and the economic factors shaping the industry.

Key highlights from the report include:

  • The UK cycling market returned to growth in 2025, with total market value increasing 5% year-on-year – the first annual growth since 2020 following four years of post-pandemic decline.
  • Sales volumes increased across all four core categories: mechanical bikes (+6%), e-bikes (+2%), parts, accessories and components (PAC) (+1%) and services (+8%).
  • Growth was driven in part by a revival in mainstream recreational and family cycling, supported by exceptionally favourable spring and summer weather in 2025.
  • E-bike value grew strongly (+10%), driven by higher-value models such as e-MTBs, even though overall e-bike volume growth remained modest.
  • The total UK cycling market is estimated to have reached just under £1.9 billion in 2025, returning close to 2022 levels after several years of decline.

Bronwyn Benstead, Bicycle Association’s Commercial & Insights Manager, stated: “The past few years have been a period of significant adjustment for the cycling industry following the extraordinary demand seen during the pandemic. While the market remains challenging, the BA’s data, and future forecasts, suggest that the sector may be approaching a turning point, with early signs of stabilisation and opportunities for growth as businesses adapt to changing consumer demand. Encouragingly, we’re also seeing a recovery in children’s cycling, which is a positive signal for the long-term health of the industry.”

The BA recently announced at Core Bike the redevelopment of its Essential Market Data Service. The service will be available to retailers at no charge in exchange for contributing their sales data.

Alongside the upcoming launch of the service in Germany this April, in partnership with ZIV, it is an exciting time for MDS. With expansion into new territories and further development of the taxonomy and tools within the platform planned, these improvements will enrich the experience and enhance the data available to all users.
